KUCHING: Two foreign women were fined a total of RM6,000 by separate Magistrates’ Courts here for prostitution at a spa along Jalan Airport last month.
An Indonesian woman, identified as Juliana, 31, was fined RM2,000 or in default two months’ imprisonment by Magistrate Nursyaheeqa Nazwa Radzali, while Thai national, Narissa Nuda, 29, was fined RM4,000 or in default six months’ imprisonment by Magistrate Leona Dominic Mojiliu.
Both accused, who were unrepresented, pleaded guilty to charges under Section 372B of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to one year’s imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
According to the case facts, both women were arrested during a police raid conducted by a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Sarawak at a spa premises at Jalan Airport, at about 2.15 pm on March 23.
Juliana was found waiting for customers in one of the rooms, while investigations revealed that she had entered Kuching on March 9 and had been servicing between three to four customers daily.
Meanwhile, Narissa was found inside a room with a customer under circumstances that gave rise to reasonable suspicion that prostitution activities were taking place.
Police also detained other individuals during the operation, including an Indonesian man and another foreign woman.
Items seized from the premises included condoms, lubricant, a towel, and RM300 in cash, believed to be linked to the illicit activities.
The prosecution in both cases was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutors, Muhammad Afiq Safly Nor Kazly and Muhammad Aidil Akmal Sharidan, while the cases were investigated by Insp. Logeswara Al Tharumalay @ Krishnan.
