KUCHING: The Swinburne Indoor Open (SIO) 2026 has expanded in scale this year, growing from eight to 12 teams and utilising two venues as the local frisbee scene continues to gain momentum.
Organising chairwoman Claudia Yong Bi Er said the expansion reflects increasing interest in the sport, with participation from both local and outstation players.
“The tournament has grown into a platform that brings together both new and experienced players on a bigger stage.
“It is not just developing within Sarawak, but also attracting players from other regions and even overseas, making the competition more competitive and exciting,” she said when contacted recently.
The larger format required greater coordination and resources, with organisers initially uncertain about managing the increased scale.
However, the two-day event was successfully carried out, supported by strong participation from players and the organising team.
“I hope SIO can continue in the coming years, including SIO 2027, and that future generations will carry this event forward,” she said.
“Our aim is to keep raising the standard of the tournament and establish it as one of the leading indoor events in Sarawak.”
