KUCHING: The Sarawak government is prioritising efforts to strengthen water supply across the state through the construction of new treatment plants, upgrading existing facilities, and replacing ageing pipelines.

Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi said a water grid system is also being developed to enhance the efficiency of water distribution, funded by the state government.

He added that all projects are being carried out by the ministry through the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) and Sarawak Water.

“The implementation of these projects is guided by the Sarawak Water Master Plan, the Sarawak Water Grid System, as well as the statewide Pipe Replacement and Upgrading Programme.

“So far, progress is on track, with continuous monitoring being conducted at project sites,” he said after chairing a meeting on water supply project implementation in Sarawak here today (Apr 7).

He noted that monitoring includes regular site visits to ensure smooth execution.

At the same time, invitations for site visits have been extended to local elected representatives, divisional government officers, and community leaders (KMKK) in the affected areas to enhance transparency.

He stressed that these ongoing initiatives reflect the Sarawak government’s commitment to ensuring all residents have access to safe and quality water supply.
