KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritising the welfare of Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) personnel, reflecting the government’s high regard for their service in defending national sovereignty.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin stated that the sacrifices made by military personnel in maintaining regional security, particularly in Sarawak, represent a profound trust that is deeply appreciated by the nation.
“The government and the people hold the loyalty and sacrifices of our defence forces in the highest esteem. We pray that their dedicated service remains blessed as they ensure the nation’s sovereignty is preserved,” he said during his working visit and a ‘Ramah Mesra’ session with ATM personnel at Kem Muara Tuang today.
Beyond infrastructure, MINDEF is also strengthening the future prospects of its personnel through the Work-Based Learning (WBL) programme.
“Our goal is for personnel who join with Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) qualification to leave with a diploma. This year, the government is fully funding the RM6,500 cost for an increased quota of 1,300 personnel, a move to honour their service and enhance post-retirement career mobility” he said.
In terms of strategic defence, Khaled stressed that the modern warfare landscape demands seamless collaboration between the three service branches – Army, Navy, and Air Force – as well as the precise integration of technological assets.
Drawing lessons from current global conflicts, he asserted that defence capabilities can no longer operate in silos.
“Contemporary warfare requires a collaborative approach, utilizing technology to integrate all available assets. This synergy is key to developing a more robust and effective national defence system,” he added.
Also present were Ministry of Defence Secretary-General, Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali; Chief of Army General, Datuk Azhan Md Othman; Chief of Air Force, General Datuk Seri Muhamad Norazlan Aris; and Eastern Field Commander, Lieutenant General Datuk Mohd Sofi Md Lepi.
