KUCHING: The Meow Autism Fun Run has united the community, serving as a platform to promote awareness, inclusivity, and support for autism while encouraging a healthy lifestyle.

Organised by the Kuching Autism Association, the programme was held at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Foyer here on Sunday to enhance public understanding and awareness of autism.

Officiating at the Meow Autism Fun Run, MBKS Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng highlighted how the event acted as a reminder to strengthen community bonds.

“Autism is not something to be feared or misunderstood; it is simply a different way of experiencing the world, and every individual with autism has their own strengths and potential that requires public support and acceptance,” he said during his speech at the Meow Autism Fun Run.

On a similar note, Wee also shared that there is a park, known as  Ausome Park, which was designed especially for children with autism and special needs, marking the first of its kind in Sarawak.

“The development of the Ausome Park creates a space where they can play, learn, and simply be themselves,” he said.

Additionally, he also emphasised that true inclusion begins with mindset, particularly in how society perceives individuals with autism by dodging stereotypes and misconceptions to empower the community.

“Events like this play an important role in raising awareness and changing perceptions. They bring people together and remind us that diversity is not a weakness, but our strength.

“The programme aligns with MBKS’s principle of “No One Should Be Left Behind,” reflecting efforts to build a truly inclusive, caring, and supportive city for all,” he added.
