Man gets RM3,000 fine for having ketamine

KUCHING: A 27-year-old man was sentenced by the Magistrates’ Court here today to a fine of RM3,000, in default seven months’ imprisonment, for possessing ketamine last year.

Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan imposed the sentence on Fahmi Izzuddin Saberi after he pleaded guilty,

The offence was framed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM100,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both upon conviction.

Fahmi committed the offence at about 3.50pm on Oct 3, 2025, at a roadside near Tabuan Tranquility, where he was found in possession of 0.38 grammes of ketamine.

He was arrested Fahmi after he exited his vehicle for suspected involvement in drug-related activities.

Fahmi voluntarily handed over a cigarette to the police.

Upon inspection, the cigarette was found to contain tobacco mixed with a substance believed to be ketamine.

A chemical analysis later confirmed that the substance contained 0.38 grammes of ketamine.

The prosecution was conducted by Inspector Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Illin.
