DEBAK: The newly completed Debak District Mosque is expected to ease congestion during Friday prayers and festive seasons as demand for prayer space continues to increase in the area.
Deputy Minister for Community Well-being Development, Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam, said the project was approved earlier by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg but experienced delays during the COVID-19 pandemic before construction resumed and was eventually completed.
He said existing mosques nearby were often unable to accommodate congregants, particularly during peak prayer times and major celebrations such as Hari Raya.
“With the completion of this mosque, it will help address capacity issues, especially during Friday prayers when existing facilities could no longer accommodate the number of worshippers,” he said during the ‘Pemimpin Bersama Rakyat’ programme today.
Razi described the mosque as a new landmark reflecting the progress of the local community, and said it is equipped with modern facilities to support religious and community activities.
He added that the mosque is located next to a village expansion scheme approved under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP), involving 245 residential lots to help meet increasing housing demand among residents, particularly younger families.
He said a second phase involving an additional 198 lots has also been proposed to further address settlement needs in Debak.
According to him, the expansion scheme is important as existing villages in the area have become increasingly dense, especially during festive seasons when returning family members place additional pressure on available space and infrastructure.
