KUCHING: A total of 20 foreigners were detained in an immigration enforcement operation dubbed ‘Ops Selera’ targeting food and beverage premises around the city on Wednesday (April 16).

Sarawak Immigration Department’s Kuching Enforcement Division said the operations were launched following public complaints about undocumented foreign workers.

A team of 30 enforcement officers conducted inspections and raids at several eateries, including premises at City Square along Jalan Pending.

A seafood restaurant at Mile 8 was also checked during the operations.

Initial checks found that most of those detained were suspected of working without valid passes or permits.

All detainees were taken to the Immigration Depot for further investigation under the Immigration Act.
