SIBU : A Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House has brought together members of the local community in a celebration that went beyond festivity, highlighting the importance of unity, harmony, and mutual respect among Malaysia’s diverse society.

According to the Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, the event served as a meaningful platform to strengthen relationships across different races, religions and cultural backgrounds.

“In areas such as Taman Apollo, the spirit of harmony was clearly reflected through the community’s cooperation, willingness to help one another, and shared values of respect,” he said at the event held at Masjid Darul Firdaus, Taman Appollo here on Friday night.

“Community leaders noted that such togetherness forms the foundation of a progressive and harmonious society, especially in Sarawak, where diversity has long been a source of strength.

“The strong participation from residents further demonstrated the community’s commitment to maintaining unity and fostering goodwill,” he added.

Some 512 residents of Taman Apollo and nearby areas joined the Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House jointly organised by Masjid Darul Firdaus Taman Apollo, Apollo Deshon Neighbourhood Watch (KRT) and Persatuan Solidariti Nasional (PerSoNa) Sarawak Region.

Tiang, who is also Pelawan assemblyman, said plans are underway to construct a new mosque featuring Chinese architectural elements, symbolising Sarawak’s unique multicultural identity.

“The proposed project is expected to not only enhance religious facilities but also serve as a hub for community engagement and activities.

“It is hope that the project will come to fruition in the near future, bringing long-term benefits to the local population while showcasing the harmony between culture and faith,” he added.

Meanwhile, in support of the mosque’s needs, a contribution of 30 round tables along with chairs was announced by Tiang to address the shortage of facilities for organising events.

The donation is expected to improve the comfort and experience of future gatherings, including upcoming Hari Raya celebrations.

Tiang is optimistic that future events will be even more vibrant, with improved arrangements allowing attendees to gather in a more comfortable setting.

He attributed the success of the event to the dedication and strong commitment of the organising teams and community leaders such as the Chairman of Masjid Darul Firdaus Taman Apollo, Junaidi Mohamed Mokhtar; the Chairman of KRT Apollo Deshon, Mohamad Hafiq Kassim; and the Vice-President of PerSoNa National Malaysia, Halmi Morsili.

He stressed that the organisers leadership and collaborative efforts were instrumental in ensuring the smooth execution of the event and in strengthening bonds within the community.

“The open house stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of unity and cooperation in Sarawak and this setting is a positive example for communities across the nation,” he added.
