SIBU: The Junior Chamber International (JCI) is committed to cultivating young leaders, encouraging the youth to step out of their comfort zones, grow through practice, and learn through service.

Pointing this out, its Senator, Joseph Chieng Jin Ek, said the most valuable aspect of JCI is that it not only talks about ideals but also provides a platform for young people to truly try, take on responsibilities, and make a difference.

“In Malaysia, Sarawak, and even Sibu, JCI has long played a vital role in promoting social progress. Whether in youth entrepreneurship, community service, youth development, or international cultural exchange, JCI members are always at the forefront, bringing positive impact to society through their actions.

“You are not people who wait for opportunities, but a group that actively creates opportunities and drives change,” he said at the joint installation cum awards presentation ceremony 2026 of JCI Mandarin Sibu and JCI Youth Methodist Pilley Institute (MPI), held at a restaurant here on Saturday night (April 18).

Simon Tiong was newly installed as JCI Mandarin Sibu President, replacing Alexander Ling, while Karifedth Ling took over from Calvin Wong as the new JCI Youth MPI President.

Chieng, who is also Bukit Assek assemblyman, was represented by his Executive Assistant John Ling, who read his speech.

Chieng pointed out that times are constantly changing and challenges are everywhere, but precisely because of this, it is even more necessary for young people with ideals and a sense of responsibility to step forward.

Being a youth leader, he stressed, is not just about having a title, but more importantly, about taking responsibility, upholding principles, and being willing to contribute to society.

“Please always ask yourselves: What positive impact can we have on society? What positive contributions can we leave for the next generation? Leadership is not just about influencing others, but also about leading by example and serving others. Dare to dream, and be courageous in action; have vision, and be grounded in reality.

“To the new board of directors, your journey officially begins today. We hope you will guide the direction with courage, unite the team with enthusiasm, and serve society with your original aspirations.

“In the face of various challenges, maintain your faith, continue learning, constantly break through your own limitations, and lead the Junior Chamber to even greater milestones,” he said.

He extended his sincere congratulations to the new team of JCI Sibu Mandarin and JCI Youth MPI, and heartfelt recognition to all the award winners, adding that their contributions and achievements are not only personal honours, but also demonstrate the responsibility and potential of the younger generation.
