SIBU: A woman was killed after being thrown onto the road and hit by a car in an accident at Mile 21, Jalan Bintulu–Sibu on Sunday (April 19).
The 66-year-old had been riding pillion with her 64-year-old husband when their motorcycle is believed to have skidded out of control from the left lane into the right lane.
Sibu police chief ACP Azari Miskon said the victim was flung onto the road following the incident before being struck by a car travelling in the same direction.
“The driver was unable to avoid her due to the close distance and poor lighting conditions.
“She was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from Sibu Hospital. Her body was later taken to the hospital for post-mortem,” he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, the victim’s husband sustained injuries to his arm and left leg while the 26-year-old driver escaped unhurt.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
