MUKAH: A labourer was arrested after he was found in possession of suspected methamphetamine at a petrol station in Selangau yesterday (Apr 20).
During an ‘Ops Tapis’ sweep, a narcotics team inspected the petrol station’s restroom and found the 29-year-old man behaving suspiciously.
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said a search led to the discovery of a straw tube containing crystalline substances in a black sling bag belonging to the suspect.
“The seized drugs, believed to be methamphetamine, weighed about 0.36g. Both the suspect and drugs were taken to the district police headquarters for further action.
“A urine test conducted on him returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said.
Rizal said the case is being investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
The suspect has been remanded for three days until April 23 to facilitate investigations.
He added that police remain committed to combating drug abuse and urged those with information to contact the Mukah police hotline at 084-871222 or the nearest police station.
