KUCHING: Visitors are drawn to the Brooke Dockyard Museum with its maritime exhibits, particularly the historic ship, that offer both educational and immersive experiences.

Several visitors said the museum provides valuable insights into engineering and maritime heritage.

Mohd Afzar Shaputra Zarfan said the highlight of his visit was the ship, where he and his companions were able to explore how it functions.

“We were really interested in the ship. We could see how it works from the inside,” he said.

He added that the experience gave them a deeper appreciation for the people behind the maritime industry.

“We learned about all the men behind it, the mechanics and workers who made everything possible,” he said, describing them as the “men of steel”.

Afzar also admitted that his expectations were initially low.

“We thought it would be quite ordinary, but once we explored it, it turned out to be really interesting,” he added.

Similarly, Muhamad Afiq Hardi said the ship located beside the museum caught his attention due to its rich history.

“The ship has a lot of history and it helped me learn more about Sarawak’s past,” he said.

He also noted that the museum provided valuable insights into engineering, which motivated him to pursue further studies in the field.

“I learned about important figures who contributed to Sarawak and gained knowledge about engineering that can help me in university,” he added.

Another visitor, Muhamad Irfan Mohamad Zaidi Mahdi, described the ship exhibition as the most exciting part of the visit.

“We could go inside the ship, explore the engine area, and see its different components,” he said.

He explained that the hands-on experience allowed them to better understand the structure and functions of a ship.

“We got to learn about the different parts and components that we had only studied before,” he said.

Like Afzar, Irfan also found that the museum exceeded his expectations.

“We thought it would just display ships, but there were many more exhibits and important items related to ships,” he said.

Overall, the museum visit not only provided an engaging learning experience but also sparked interest in history and engineering among visitors.
