KABONG: A string of housebreaking incidents in Kampung Kabong was brought to an end following the arrest of two men and the recovery of stolen items believed to be linked to multiple cases in the village.
The arrests followed a report lodged by a 34-year-old man who returned to his home in Kampung Kabong to find his back door forced open.
Further checks found that a grass cutter worth RM800 was missing, prompting him to alert police.
Acting on investigations, police arrested the suspects yesterday (Apr 21), and recovered several items suspected to be stolen property, including a grass cutter, water pump, fan, gas cylinder and screwdriver.
Saratok Police Chief, DSP Mathew Manggie, said initial findings found that the suspects, both aged 26, had broken into the house by dismantling the screws on the back door hinges before entering.

“Both suspects admitted to entering the victim’s house and taking the grass cutter from the kitchen before fleeing through the same door.
“Further interrogation uncovered their involvement in at least two more housebreaking and theft cases in the same village.
“All the stolen items were kept at one of the suspect’s houses while waiting for buyers. The proceeds were believed to be used to purchase drugs,” he said.
Urine tests showed both suspects were positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine, while background checks found one of them had a prior drug-related record.
Mathew said the case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking.
