JAKARTA, Indonesia: Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in the East Nusa Tenggara region of Indonesia erupted today (Apr 23), spewing volcanic ash to a height of 1,500 metres above its peak, according to Indonesia’s Centre for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation (PVMBG), Xinhua reported.

PVMBG said the eruption occurred at 6:31 pm local time and lasted three and a half minutes, with ash drifting toward the southwest.

Despite the activity, authorities reported no significant increase in volcanic tremors.
The volcano remains at Level II on the country’s four-tier alert system.

Residents and tourists are advised to stay away from the restricted zone within a four-kilometre radius of the crater.

Officials also urged the public to wear face masks and eye protection, and to remain alert for possible lava flows triggered by rainfall into rivers near the volcano. – BERNAMA-XINHUA
