KUCHING: A 32-year-old man has been left bedridden with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) following a motorcycle accident in February, resulting in the loss of income for his family.

Philip Enang had previously worked for an air-conditioning servicing company on a daily wage, making him the sole breadwinner of the family.

Philip, from Tabuan Jaya, sustained multiple injuries in the accident, including fractures to his ribs and femur, internal bleeding in his lungs and brain, and liver damage. He was hospitalised until early April.

He is currently unable to speak, suffers memory loss and has limited mobility, with movement only on his left side. His right eye also remains swollen.

His wife, Pranita, 32, is now his full-time caregiver, attending to his daily needs while also caring for their two children, aged five and 10, at home.

She remains by his side throughout the day, managing his condition alongside household responsibilities.

“Sometimes he remembers our faces, but sometimes he sees us like strangers,” she said.

Pranita, who is unemployed, said the family is facing financial strain due to ongoing expenses, including rent, schooling, utilities, medical supplies and specialised nutrition.

“I was very worried and anxious, especially with the special milk supplements, which is the only food my husband can take,” she added.

“Each can of milk powder costs more than RM100 and I need to buy at least 10 cans every month.”

Non-governmental organisation, Hope Place Kuching, has provided assistance to the family, including food aid, adult diapers and specialised milk supplements.

Pranita is currently applying for financial assistance from the Social Welfare Department.

Healthcare workers from a nearby clinic are also conducting home visits twice a week while relatives assist in transporting Philip for specialist treatment.
