MIRI: A man was arrested in northern Sarawak after allegedly threatening to kill his sister with a machete in a dispute at a plantation settlement near Niah.
The suspect, a 37-year-old foreign national, was detained following a police report lodged by his 35-year-old sister on Wednesday afternoon.
The woman told officers she had been threatened at her home in Ladang Suai 2, along Jalan BLD in Ulu Suai, near Miri.
Police later raided a nearby hut close to an oil palm estate in Suai, where they arrested the man and seized a machete, a homemade shotgun and six rounds of ammunition.
A urine test conducted after the arrest returned positive for drugs, investigators said.
The suspect has been remanded for four days until Apr 27.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the case is being investigated for criminal intimidation under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a sentence of up to seven years in prison, a fine, or both upon conviction.
He added that the man is also being investigated under Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960 for possession of an illegal firearm, an offence punishable by up to seven years’ imprisonment or a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.
Police urged members of the public with information on the possession or distribution of homemade firearms to contact the investigating officer or report to the nearest police station.
