KUCHING: The late Datuk Seri Bo’ Tajang Laing has been described as a father figure to the Orang Ulu community whose leadership and vision helped shape generations.

Belaga assemblyman Datuk Liwan Lagang said Tajang’s passing is a great loss not only to the Orang Ulu community but also to Sarawak as a whole.

“He was the first Kayan educator from Belaga, our first legislator and State minister. We mourn a father figure for the Orang Ulu community, whose dedication and vision profoundly shaped the path of our people,” he told Sarawak Tribune.

Liwan who is also the Deputy Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, said Tajang played a vital role in instilling the importance of education, empowering generations to strive for a better future.

He said Tajang’s unwavering commitment to advocacy, unity and progress has left an enduring legacy.

At the same time, he extended his condolences to Tajang’s family, praying that they would be granted strength and comfort during this difficult time.

“Our thoughts are with the family, community and all whose lives were touched by his leadership. May God’s grace and love be with them throughout this challenging time and may his soul rest in peace,” he said.
