KUCHING: An Australian woman who went missing while descending Mount Santubong was found safe with minor injuries at 11.59 am today (Apr 24).

Belinda Lapier, believed to be in her 40s, is being brought down by rescuers.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said she had strayed from the trail while making her way down from the summit.

Her location was confirmed this morning after rescuers maintained communication with her during the operations.

Earlier, forest rangers had managed to contact her at about 5:00 pm on Thursday, but were unable to pinpoint her exact position despite hearing her voice in the F7 area.

Search and rescue (SAR) operations were launched, with teams navigating off-trail routes to reach her.

Rescuers faced steep terrain estimated at 90 degrees, along with obstacles such as large rocks and fallen trees, which slowed efforts to reach her.
