BAU: A hiking trip at Mount Bung Muan in Kampung Peninjau, Siniawan, took an anxious turn after two women lost their way on the trail, before safely finding their way out hours later.

The 53-year-old, together with her son and niece, both aged 21, set out for the hike at around 8.40 am on Saturday (Apr 25) from the Rajah Brooke Heritage Site Bung Muan Peninjau.

Later at around 1.45 pm, the women realised they had veered off the designated path and could no longer locate the proper route.

They had also become separated from the son, who had moved ahead at a faster pace.

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the son reached the foot of the mountain at around 5.30 pm but grew concerned when his mother and cousin failed to appear.

“He then used a villager’s phone to report the situation. As rescue personnel were mobilised, the women continued navigating the area and eventually emerged at Serembu Eco Park, Siniawan, at around 6.30 pm.

“They sought help from members of the public there, who assisted them back to the starting point of the hike,” he said.

The women later arrived safely at the base of the mountain and were confirmed to be in good condition with no injuries.

Initial findings indicate that the pair had strayed from the designated trail during the hike but managed to find their way out safely.
