MUKAH: The Borneo Sarawak Health Tour (Series 2) has highlighted the need to further strengthen healthcare facilities, manpower and support services in rural areas, particularly in Mukah.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib led the visit on Monday (Apr 27), continuing efforts to assess the actual state of healthcare services on the ground.

The tour began at the Mukah Community Clinic, where the delegation observed daily operations and service delivery to the local community.

This was followed by a briefing at the Mukah Divisional Health Office, where officials outlined the current situation, key challenges and pressing needs in the division.

The delegation also visited the Mukah Maternal and Child Health Clinic (KKIA) to review services for mothers and children, as well as the Mukah Dental Clinic to assess oral healthcare provision.

The final stop was the Emergency Unit of Mukah Hospital, highlighting its critical role in handling urgent and life-threatening cases.

Throughout the visit, attention was drawn to manpower shortages, the need for stronger operational support, and the importance of roles such as hospital drivers in ensuring timely patient movement and emergency response.

The need to enhance clinical support services was also emphasised to enable more comprehensive and effective treatment for patients.

Overall, the tour found that improvements are still needed in staffing, facilities and logistics to further enhance healthcare delivery in Mukah.

Hanifah stressed that all parties must act swiftly and proactively to address the identified issues and ensure healthcare services continue to be maintained at a high standard.

Also present were senior division secretary (Development), Ministry of Health Malaysia Datin Paduka Roslinah Md Jani, State Health deputy director (Public Health) Dr Mohammad Nazarudin Bahari, Mukah Division health officer Dr Mohammad Najib Hasan, administrative officer of the Mukah Division Resident Office Mohd Amirul Valentine Laiseh and Mukah District Officer Peleadzman Ahip.
