MUKAH: A foreign man and a local woman were taken into custody for suspected drug possession along Jalan Lama Mukah-Balingian yesterday (Apr 27).
The suspects, aged 44 and 37, were detained by the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) following intelligence on drug-related activities at the edge of a forest.
Both of them were found sitting on a motorcycle when police moved in, during which the man was seen discarding a suspicious object into nearby bushes.
A search of the area led to the discovery of a plastic packet containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, weighing about 0.63g.
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the suspects and the seized items were taken to the district police headquarters for further action.
“Urine tests conducted on both individuals returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
“Initial investigations found that both suspects admitted ownership of the drugs, and they are believed to be oil palm plantation workers,” he said.
They have been remanded for three days until May 1 to assist in investigations under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Meanwhile, the male suspect is also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not possessing valid travel documents.
Rizal assured that the police remain committed to combating drug abuse and urged the public to channel information via their hotline at 084-871222 or the nearest police station.
