KUCHING: A day-long enforcement sweep across the city ended with 64 foreigners detained, as immigration authorities moved against illegal employment and suspected illicit activities.
The Sarawak Immigration Department deployed 26 officers in a coordinated operation that stretched from morning into the night on Monday (Apr 27), targeting several known hotspots across the city.
Inspections started at a terrace housing construction site in Matang before officers moved to business premises at Moyan Square, believed to be linked to online gambling activities.
As night fell, enforcement teams widened their net to a reflexology centre in Tabuan and several eateries around Kuching, identified to be employing foreign workers without valid travel documents and work permits.
The department stated that the operation reflects ongoing efforts to clamp down on immigration offences.
Enforcement will be intensified to ensure compliance with the law and to deter employers from hiring undocumented workers.
