BAU: Four local men were fined and jailed for various offences by the Magistrate’s Court here on Tuesday.
Bau Police Chief, Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman, said the cases were concluded under the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, the Penal Code and the Minor Offences Ordinance 1958.
In the first case, a man was fined RM2,000 in default two months’ imprisonment after being found guilty under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953. He paid the fine.
Meanwhile, the second case saw another man fined RM3,500, in default six months’ imprisonment, for attempted theft under Section 379 read together with Section 511 of the Penal Code.
He failed to pay the fine and was ordered to serve the jail sentence.
Haide said a third case involving two charges of mischief and theft saw the accused fined RM3,500 or six months’ imprisonment for the first offence, while the second charge carried a five-month jail term, effective April 28.
In the fourth case, another man was fined RM500 or one month’s imprisonment after being found guilty under the Minor Offences Ordinance 1958. The fine was paid.
Haide stated that police will continue to take firm action against criminal activities and ensure offenders are brought before the courts.
