BAU: Police arrested a local man and woman believed to be behind a string of house break-ins around the district, with stolen items ranging from aluminium roofing sheets to household appliances.

The pair, aged 23 and 19, were picked up during ‘Ops Pintu’ at a house in Sungai Tengah, Jalan Matang last night (Apr 29).

In addition, a Perodua Myvi believed to have been used in the crimes was also seized.

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said initial investigations found the suspects were allegedly involved in several break-ins reported in Bau earlier this month.

“In one incident on Apr 20, the male suspect is said to have forced open a grill door at a farmhouse in Kampung Tanjong Poting Singai and taken an aluminium ladder and 12 pieces of aluminium roofing while the female accomplice waited in the car.

“The stolen items were later sold to a second-hand shop for a total of RM358.

“On the same day, the man allegedly broke into another house in the same village by prying open a kitchen window, stealing two gas cylinders and an LG television.

“He later sold them for RM350,” he said.

Three days later, on Apr 23, the man is believed to have entered another farmhouse by forcing open a sliding window and removed electrical cables, which were burned and sold to a recycling company for RM120.

Earlier, on Apr 16, he allegedly entered a farmhouse in Sungai Kuang, Kampung Apar, and made off with a chainsaw and a brush cutter, later selling the chainsaw for RM50.

Mohd Haide said proceeds from the sales were used for daily expenses, fuel, online gambling and to purchase drugs.

“Background checks found that the suspects have no prior criminal records.

“The case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and theft,” he said.
