KUCHING: Kuching’s growing community of public speakers has welcomed two new additions to its ranks.

Division D of District 87 Toastmasters International has officially chartered two new clubs in the city, Trispark Advanced Toastmasters Club and Sarawak Landestate Toastmasters Club, according to the press statement today (May 2).

This marks a significant step forward in the division’s mission to make communication and leadership development accessible to all.

Trispark Advanced Toastmasters Club was the first to receive its charter, on March 23, followed by Sarawak Landestate Toastmasters Club on April 2.

Division D encompasses Toastmasters clubs across Kuching, Bintulu, Miri and Brunei.

“This milestone is part and parcel of our ‘Champions of Change Initiative’ to foster communication and leadership skills development among the populace,” said Division D Director and Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM), Joanna Then Poh Ding.

Trispark Advanced Toastmasters Club is led by President Joyces Sim May Yung, with Vicki Hiew Shen Yen as Vice-President – Education, Khoo Qian Hui as Vice-President – Membership, and Winston Then Ding How as Vice-President – Public Relations.

Rounding out the charter officer team are Secretary Mike Loh Ming Hua, Treasurer John Ling Jun Liang, and Sergeant-at-Arms Alan Ang Yu Nyak.

The club meets on every first and third Friday of the month, from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm.

Sarawak Landestate Toastmasters Club is helmed by President Lawrence Hii, with Casey Lim serving as Vice-President – Education, Rufina Law as Vice-President – Membership, and Paul Po as Vice-President – Public Relations.

The club’s charter officers also include Secretary Ashley Wong, Treasurer Teo Kai Ming, and Sergeant-at-Arms Sharene Lee.

Members gather on every second and fourth Thursday of the month, from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm.

The division is not limiting itself to Kuching area only.

Then confirmed that plans are underway to charter a new Toastmasters club in Miri, which will complement existing clubs in Sarawak’s northern region.

A demo meeting for the prospective Tie Clan Toastmasters Club in Miri has already been held, with the formal chartering expected in the coming months.

As part of its broader outreach efforts, Division D will also be rolling out a series of public workshops, including the Toastmasters Speechcraft Workshop – a condensed version of the full Toastmasters member experience designed to help participants sharpen their speaking and communication skills.

Demonstration meetings will also be organised to introduce the Toastmasters programme to those who have yet to experience it firsthand.
