MUKAH: The implementation of 48 development projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) is strengthening the momentum of Mukah’s transformation into a new economic growth centre in Sarawak.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said that out of the total, several projects have been completed while the rest are being implemented in stages.

According to him, infrastructure development remains a priority, with more than RM4 billion allocated for road and bridge projects in the Mukah Division.

“This significant investment is crucial to improving connectivity and stimulating economic activities in the area,” he was quoted as saying in an UKAS report at the opening ceremony of the Kaul and Keman Kaul 2026 Festival today (May 2), representing Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Awang Tengah added that Mukah is now strategically positioned to grow as a digital and innovation hub, in line with ongoing infrastructure development and the strengthening of the education sector.

He said the presence of institutions such as the Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (CENTEXS) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak Branch, Mukah Campus, serves as a catalyst in producing a highly skilled workforce.

“The combination of education and technical training supports efforts to position Mukah as a centre based on knowledge, technology and innovation,” he added.

At the same time, he noted that Mukah also holds significant potential in modern agriculture and the blue economy, given its coastal location.

According to him, beyond fisheries and aquaculture, the area has prospects in maritime and marine development, as well as renewable energy such as wave energy.

“This opens up new opportunities for more sustainable and competitive economic development in the future,” he said.
