MIRI: A 43-year-old man has been killed after a car collided with a four-wheel-drive vehicle that veered into the opposite lane on the Miri Bypass early Sunday morning.
The crash occurred at about 2am near a traffic light junction along Jalan Miri Bypass, police said.
Initial investigations found that the four-wheel-drive, driven by a man in his mid-20s, was travelling from Permyjaya towards Taman Tunku when it lost control and crossed into oncoming traffic.
A car carrying four people, driven by a 39-year-old man, was unable to avoid the vehicle and struck its left side.
The front-seat passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver and two other passengers, aged 19 and 20, were taken to Miri General Hospital for treatment. The driver of the four-wheel-drive also sustained multiple injuries and was admitted to the hospital’s emergency unit.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers causing death by dangerous driving.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Sin Abdullah said officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
