BAU: Four local men were arrested after testing positive for drugs following urine screening tests at the district narcotics office here yesterday (May 3).
Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the suspects, aged between 23 and 35, were picked up by personnel from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) and Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division.
“Preliminary urine tests on them returned positive results for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
“All four suspects have been arrested under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug abuse,” he said in a statement.
If convicted, the offence carries a fine up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, and offenders shall also be placed under supervision for two years under Section 38B of the same Act.
The suspects, comprising three labourers and an unemployed individual, are currently being held at Bau police lock-up for further investigation.
Background checks found that three of the suspects had four prior records under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, while one suspect had no prior record.
Mohd Haide said all four admitted to consuming syabu a day prior to their arrest.
