KUCHING: Malaysians must be wiser in managing differences and continue to respect one another, says Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.
He said this is crucial as the country navigates an environment shaped by diverse views and perspectives.
“In today’s environment with many differing views, we must be wiser in handling them. If we disagree, we should discuss it properly.
“What matters is that we continue to respect one another. This country is built on diversity, and that strength will only last if we protect it together,” he said.
Tiong said this in a Facebook post after attending the Pre-Gawai and Kaamatan 2026 dinner with the Borneo Cultural Market Seri Kembangan community in Selangor last night (May 3).
The Bintulu MP said platforms such as the Borneo Cultural Market play an important role in ensuring traditions continue to be shared and understood.
He said the space also serves as a bridge connecting people from different backgrounds, beyond its economic function.
“This is where identity, heritage, and the cultures of Sabah and Sarawak continue to live on and be shared with Malaysians.
“The cultures of Sabah and Sarawak are rich and unique, from food and handicrafts to customs and traditions.
“No matter where we are, this heritage must be preserved and passed on so that future generations can continue to recognise and experience it,” he added.
Tiong also said such initiatives benefit small traders and local artisans while strengthening community ties.
“I thank everyone who remains committed to preserving the heritage and community spirit of Borneo, no matter where we are.
“Let us continue this effort with the same goal of strengthening unity and harmony for a more united Malaysia,” he said.
