MIRI: The Borneo International Robot Tournament (Borneo IRT) 2026 is set to bring together more than 1,000 participants and officials from May 6 to 9.
The tournament will be held at the Grand Ballroom, Level 7, Meritz Hotel here, involving 288 teams comprising students aged between 9 and 21.
Supported by various agencies, including the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD), the international-level programme is organised by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of SMK Chung Hua (CF) Miri together with the school’s alumni association.
According to a statement, the fourth edition of the tournament is expected to bring together about 1,000 to 1,200 participants and officials from within and outside the country.
Participating countries are expected to include the United States, China, Japan, South Korea, Germany and Canada, as well as several from Asia and Europe.
The event will feature the “Robomission Battle LEGO Education SPIKE Prime” competition as one of its main highlights.
Six categories will be contested, including Robomission Battle for primary, secondary and upper levels, RoboSport (Double Tennis), RoboSumo, and League of Mecha-clash (LOM) Matrix.
Each team will consist of two participants guided by a mentor or teacher, focusing on building and programming robots using the LEGO Education SPIKE Prime set.
Apart from the competition, the programme will also feature an international robotics conference and engagement sessions between participants and technology experts.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for May 7, while the closing ceremony and prize presentation will be held on the night of May 9.
