BAU: Police have uncovered more cases linked to a young couple arrested over a string of house break-ins in Singai here, with the male suspect now admitting involvement in at least six incidents across several villages.

The suspects — a 23-year-old man and his 19-year-old fiancée — were picked up during ‘Ops Pintu’ last Wednesday (April 29) to facilitate investigations into housebreaking cases around the district.

Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the male suspect confessed to committing six break-ins between April 16 and 29, two more than initially admitted.

“They took place in Kampung Apar, Kampung Tanjung Poting and Kampung Sudoh.

“Meanwhile, the female suspect is believed to have accompanied him to several crime scenes and assisted in taking stolen items.”

Also seized from them were various items believed to be linked to the crimes, including a Perodua Myvi, a television, a grass cutter, a chainsaw, as well as receipts from the sale of goods.

It was understood that proceeds from the sales were used for daily expenses, fuel, online gambling and to purchase drugs.

Supt Mohd Haide added that urine screening found the male suspect tested positive for drugs.

Both suspects have been remanded and the case is being investigated under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and theft.

In light of this, he also reminded the public to enhance home security measures by installing window grilles, additional locks, alarm systems and security lighting, as well as informing neighbours or authorities when leaving their homes for extended periods.
