BINTULU: A viral video showing illegal racing activities has prompted a large-scale police operation here, resulting in the seizure of over 40 motorcycles and the arrest of a local man linked to a dangerous ‘Superman’ stunt.

The large-scale police operation at Jalan Tun Taib Mahmud Bridge being carried out yesterday morning.

The operation was carried out during an early-morning enforcement exercise yesterday (May 4) by the Bintulu Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, targeting illegal racing hotspots along Jalan Tun Taib Mahmud.

A total of 44 motorcycles of various types were seized under Section 60(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, while 136 summonses were issued for multiple traffic offences.

As for the arrest, the suspect was picked up after he was believed to have ridden a Yamaha 125 recklessly along the bridge, endangering both himself and other road users.

He is being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous riding.

Police warned that illegal racing continues to pose a serious threat to public safety, particularly among youths drawn to risky stunts for attention on social media.
