KUCHING: A repeat offender was among two local men arrested in separate raids across the city on Tuesday (May 5), as police seized a cache of drugs ranging from ketamine to Erimin 5 pills worth over RM7,500.
Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the biggest haul came during an operation by the Sarawak Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) along Jalan Badruddin at around 12.55pm.
A 35-year old local man was detained after police allegedly discovered 31.04g of suspected ketamine, 3.41g of suspected cannabis and 20.23g of Erimin 5 pills in his possession.
“The seized drugs were estimated to have a street value of RM6,590.
“Initial urine screening test also found him positive for ketamine and benzodiazepine.
“Background checks found the man had two prior criminal records,” he said.
The suspect has been remanded until May 8 to assist investigations under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries life imprisonment or a minimum five-year jail sentence and up to 10 strokes of the cane, upon conviction.
Later the same day, Alexson said a team from the district’s NCID raided a house in Kampung Sungai Midin at around 4.45pm.
“Police arrested a 23-year-old local man after allegedly finding 39.90g of suspected cannabis worth RM927 inside the premises.
“The suspect tested positive for THC during an initial urine screening test, while background checks found he had no priors,” he said.
He has been remanded until May 10 to facilitate investigations under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Alexson assured that police will not compromise with any parties involved in drug trafficking activities.
Possessing, distributing or protecting drug-related activities are serious offences under the law, and the NCID remains committed to intensifying efforts against drug-related crimes to safeguard the community from the threat of narcotics.
