SIBU: In conjunction with World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2026, the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sibu Branch successfully organised the “Adoption World Red Cross Babies” programme at Sibu Hospital today (May 8).

The meaningful annual programme was held to celebrate babies born on this special occasion while sharing joy and appreciation with mothers and families at the maternity ward.

Through this initiative, MRCS Sibu hopes to spread the spirit of humanity, compassion, and care within the community.

During the visit, MRCS Sibu presented special hampers to the first three newborn babies delivered on May 8.

In addition, towels were also distributed to other babies born throughout the day as a gesture of care and celebration.

MRCS Sibu’s Chairman, Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee, said this programme has been continuously organised by MRCS Sibu since the 1970s and remains one of the branch’s meaningful annual traditions.

The programme, he added, continues to this day as it symbolises hope, love, and the humanitarian spirit of the Red Crescent Movement.

It also reflects MRCS’ commitment to staying close to the community by sharing memorable moments with families and welcoming new lives born on World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.

“MRCS Sibu also take the opportunity to convey our congratulations and best wishes to the parents and families of the newborns. The programme reflects the commitment of MRCS in promoting humanitarian values and strengthening community relationships through caring initiatives.

“We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the management and staff of Sibu Hospital for their cooperation and support in making this programme a success.”
