KUCHING: Four Bills will be tabled during the upcoming Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting beginning Monday (May 11).
DUN Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar said the eight-day sitting, which will run until May 20, will officially begin with the opening address by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar on May 11.
The Bills are the Supplementary Supply (2025) Bill, 2026; Supplementary Supply (2026) Bill, 2026; Sarawak Padi and Rice Board Bill, 2026; and the Perbadanan Pembangunan Ekonomi Sarawak (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
He said the first reading for all Bills will take place on May 12.
“The second and third readings for both Supplementary Supply Bills, which will be tabled by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, are scheduled for May 14.
“Meanwhile, the second and third readings for the Sarawak Padi and Rice Board Bill, 2026 and the Perbadanan Pembangunan Ekonomi Sarawak (Amendment) Bill, 2026 will be held on the same day as their first reading on May 12.
“The Sarawak Padi and Rice Board Bill, 2026 will be tabled by Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom,” he said.
On the Perbadanan Pembangunan Ekonomi Sarawak (Amendment Bill), Mohamad Asfia said the amendments mainly involve revisions to terminology and definitions under the principal ordinance.
Among others, the amendment seeks to replace the term “general manager” with “chief executive officer” and “group general manager”.
“We used to follow the British system which used the term general manager, while the American system uses chief executive officer or CEO,” he explained.
Apart from the Bills, Mohamad Asfia revealed that a total of 333 questions from 39 assemblymen have been submitted for the upcoming sitting.
Of the total, 254 questions from 37 assemblymen require written replies while 79 questions requiring oral replies were submitted by 15 assemblymen.
“The Premier’s Department received the highest number of questions with 50 and there are no questions that have been rejected,” he said.
Mohamad Asfia said the debate on the motion of appreciation for the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak’s address will be held from May 13 to May 15, while ministerial winding-up sessions are scheduled from May 18 to May 20.
“A Ministerial Motion under Standing Order 23(1)(a) regarding the appointment of a Special Select Committee under Section 42(3) of the Sarawak Ombudsman Ordinance 2023 will also be tabled on May 13 by Datuk Dr Juanda Jaya,” he said.
On leave applications submitted by assemblymen, Mohamad Asfia said all requests received have been accepted, including from Dudong assemblyman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing who will not be present during the official opening of the DUN sitting on May 11.
