SPAOH: Rural schools here received a RM268,600 boost on Saturday (May 9) to strengthen STEM, ICT and student development programmes under the Sarawak Government’s education empowerment initiative.
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas presented the contributions to the Spaoh Tiong Hua Association and eight schools during a cheque presentation ceremony at PAWE Bukit Saban on Saturday.
The allocation was channelled through the School Infrastructure Development (PACU) initiative aimed at improving educational facilities and resources, particularly in rural areas.
The recipients were SK Penom, SK Paku Central, SK Suri, SJK(C) Chung Hua Spaoh, SK St John Nanga Tiga, SK Nanga Gayau, SK Spaoh, SMK Spaoh and the Spaoh Tiong Hua Association.
A total of RM70,000 from the allocation was earmarked for books for seven primary schools to improve access to learning materials.
SK Nanga Gayau’s headmaster, Stanley Matthew Kalong Dandan said the assistance would support ICT and STEM-related programmes for students and teachers.
He said the contribution would also help prepare students for challenges in a technology-driven environment.
Meanwhile, SK Spaoh’s headmaster, Edie Rahmat Salleh said the aid would strengthen existing school resources, including sports, co-curricular and student development activities.
He added that the contribution would enable the school to organise more comprehensive programmes for students.
The initiative reflects the Sarawak Government’s continued focus on narrowing the rural education gap and strengthening human capital development statewide.
