SIBU: The Magistrates’ Court here today (May 11) sentenced a 49-year-old man to three months jail for stealing donation monies from a temple.

Tang Kah Pui from Kapit pleaded guilty to the charge before Magistrate Romario Jonoi.

He was indicted for committing theft of donation monies from Tua Pek Kong temple along Temple Road at about 5.50 am on March 9.

According to the facts of the case, on Mar 9 at about 6 am, at Tua Pek Kong Temple, the complainant was informed by a cleaner that a donation box placed at the counter was missing.

The complainant then searched the surrounding area and subsequently found the donation box at the rear corner of the premises in a damaged condition.

The cash contained inside the donation box had been stolen by an unknown person.

A review of the CCTV recording revealed that a person wearing a dark-coloured shirt had lifted the donation box and removed the cash contained inside it.

On the same day at about 12 noon, acting on information received, a police team arrested the accused at Sibu Central Market for further investigation.

The accused later led the police to the location where the money was taken.
