KUCHING: A local man was arrested for allegedly assaulting another man with a shovel handle following a dispute in Kampung Bako last week.

The 45-year-old was picked up by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) at around 8.10pm on May 6.

Kuching police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said investigations found the suspect was believed to have attacked the 27-year-old victim using a wooden shovel handle.

“It is believed to be due to dissatisfaction over a certain matter.

“The victim suffered injuries and bruises to his left eye, the right side of his head, right elbow and back as a result of the incident,” he said.

Further checks found that the suspect had one prior record and tested negative for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon.

Upon conviction, the offence provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years, a fine, or caning, or any two of the punishments.

Alexson advised the public to remain patient and refrain from resorting to violence against others.

He also urged those with information on criminal activities to report them to Kuching police operations centre at 082-244444.
