KUCHING: The State Banquet held in conjunction with the ceremonial opening of the First Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) was held in a grand and colourful atmosphere at the Sarawak DUN Complex here on Monday (May 11).
The event was graced by the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi.
Also accompanying them was Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his daughter, Dayang Nurjihan.
Upon the arrival of the guests of honour, the state anthem Ibu Pertiwiku was played before the ceremony continued with a welcoming dance performance themed Sarawak Maju Makmur.
The performance highlighted harmony and unity among Sarawak’s various ethnic communities and was presented by the Sarawak Arts Council Dance Artists through a choreography by Sharifah Pura Wan Hamid.
Guests later attended a dinner reception while being entertained by invited artistes accompanied by the Sarawak State Symphony Orchestra.
The event ended with a finale performance titled Joget Kenangan Manis before the dignitaries left.
The DUN sitting runs from May 11 to 20.
Also present were Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, as well as Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar.
