KUCHING: Regent of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatudin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has successfully reached the summit of Mount Kinabalu of Sabah at 4,095 metres above sea level this morning as part of the Mahkota Borneo Expedition.
The achievement reflected endurance, determination and leadership while highlighting the beauty of Sabah and one of Malaysia’s most iconic natural landmarks.
According to social media posts shared online, Tengku Hassanal arrived at the summit at about 10am after beginning the climb yesterday via the Timpohon trail.
His Royal Highness reportedly reached the Panalaban checkpoint safely at 3.45pm before resuming the ascent at 2am today.
The climb was held in conjunction with the Mahkota Borneo Expedition, which saw Tengku Hassanal leading an entourage comprising officers and personnel from the Royal Malaysian Air Force Special Forces (PASKAU) as well as close protection officers from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) alongside seasoned Mount Kinabalu porters.
Tengku Hassanal arrived in Sabah on May 11 for the expedition programme, which concluded today.
His Royal Highness was earlier received at Kota Kinabalu International Airport by Sabah Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan and Sabah deputy state secretary Datuk Ahemad Sade.
