Kalaka assemblyman Mohamad Duri has called for the reinstatement of the Roban police station.

He said residents in Roban are now forced to travel to Kabong or Saratok for police-related matters after the Roban police station was relocated to the Kabong police station in February following the expiry of the building rental agreement.

“The matter has caused unease among the people, particularly in terms of security, public order and matters involving the police,” he said in his debate speech on the motion of appreciation to the Head of State’s address at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting today (May 13).

He also pressed for the expedited construction of the new Saratok district police headquarters (IPD), noting that although the site has been identified and policy approval granted, physical works have yet to begin.

“The project is important to strengthen security, improve police welfare and enhance efforts to combat crime, particularly drug-related offences in Saratok,” he said.

He added that the district also requires more narcotics officers and personnel as drug abuse issues continue to worsen.

On a related matter, he also raised concerns over individuals subjected to restricted residence orders being sent to Saratok, claiming the situation has sparked anxiety among residents due to alleged involvement of some individuals in crimes such as house break-ins and theft.

He cited a recent break-in case involving a suspect who tested positive for drugs and was believed to be an Orang Pengawasan Polis (OPP) placed under police supervision in Saratok.

In view of this, Mohamad urged the government to reduce the number of individuals under restricted residence orders being relocated to the district in order to preserve public safety and harmony in the area.
