SIBU: More than 450 delegates from across Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei and Indonesia have converged on Sibu for the three-day Toastmasters District 87 Annual Conference 2026, which officially opened today (May 15) at RH Hotel.
Held under the theme ‘Shape Our Future’, the conference brings together public speaking and leadership development enthusiasts in one of the region’s most anticipated events on the Toastmasters calendar.
The event is supported by the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development, as well as Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak).
Delegates can look forward to a packed programme spanning speech contests, keynote addresses, educational workshops, and awards presentations throughout the three-day event.
A highlight of the conference will be a keynote address on Saturday morning (May 16) by Toastmasters International President, Aletta Rochat, who has travelled from Cape Town, South Africa, to address the gathering.
Also in attendance are International Director, Hani Nur Zaihanirah Zaini; District 87 Director, Suharjo Setio; District 87 Program Quality Director, Desmond Chieng; and District 87 Club Growth Director, Joanna Tang.
The speaker lineup further includes Executive Speech Coach and World Championship of Public Speaking finalist, Fursey Gotuaco, from the United States; TEDx speaker, Sasha Li from China; professional speaker and trainer, Lui Lep Ming from Sabah; and HRDF-certified trainer, Wong Toh Hee from Sibu.
The official opening ceremony on Saturday morning is expected to be officiated by Bawang Assan assemblyman, Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh.
