SIBU: A family of six was left with nothing but clothes on their backs after their house was destroyed in a fire this morning (May 17).

The single-storey wooden rental house along Jalan Nyatoh–Jalan Lanang here was razed in the blaze, which broke out at around 8.20 am.

No injuries or fatalities were reported as all six occupants — comprising four men and two women — managed to escape before the flames spread.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said firefighters from Sibu central station were dispatched to the scene following an emergency call.

Upon arrival, they found the house beyond saving and carried out the extinguishing deed using water sourced from a nearby hydrant.

The flames were brought under control and overhaul works followed to ensure that the fire was fully extinguished and no further hazards remained.

Once the situation was deemed safe, the team ended the operation at 9.35 am.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
