PADAWAN: Scout activities and leadership camps can help shape children into more balanced individuals by strengthening their academic, physical and mental development.
According to Padawan District Scout Council’s Chairman, Meehan Jorai, programmes organised through the Scout movement played an important role in building character, discipline and independence among students.
“Camping activities and leadership training not only help students become more disciplined, but also nurture them to become more capable, independent and holistic individuals,” he said during the closing of the Sarawak State Sixers’ Leadership Course for Padawan District at SK St George today.
Meehan said the course theme, ‘Scouts: Future Leaders’, reflected the role participants would eventually play as future leaders at various levels of society.
He reminded participants to continue upholding the Scout Promise and Scout Law in their daily lives.
“We hope programmes like this will help produce Scouts who are capable, visionary and independent, while also preventing children from becoming overly absorbed in gadgets and social media,” he added.
According to a press statement, the Padawan District Sixers’ Leadership Course was held from May 15 to 17 and gathered 134 participants alongside 43 Scout leaders.
Participants came from nine schools in Padawan District as well as three schools from Siburan District.
Meehan also expressed appreciation to SK St George for supporting the programme and allowing the school grounds to be used as the campsite.
Also present were Masayu Abdull Raman, Aldrin Peter Diman, Britt Martin Gana, Janos Nyirim and Daut Taim.
