KUCHING: A morning at a popular café here took a frightening turn after a car allegedly shot into the premises, injuring two traders last Saturday (May 16).

Kuching police chief Alexson Naga Chabu said the accident happened at around 10.50 am at Rock City Cafe and involved a sedan driven by an 84-year-old local man.

Preliminary investigations found that the driver was reversing out of a parking bay when he is believed to have accidentally stepped on the accelerator pedal, causing the vehicle to suddenly lose control and dashed forward.

“The car then rammed into a food stall belonging to vendors before hitting two traders inside the café premises.

“A 68-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman sustained minor injuries in the incident and later received outpatient treatment at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“Meanwhile, the elderly driver was unhurt,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Rule 10 LN166/59, while further investigations are ongoing.

Alexson also reminded road users to remain cautious and alert while driving to prevent similar incidents from occurring.
