A total of 14,505 out of 18,799 registered court cases involving breaches of adat, civil disputes, applications for recognition as a Native of Sarawak, and appeal cases registered since 1992 across all levels of courts in Sarawak, have been resolved.

Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai said the Native Courts are making every effort to ensure the remaining cases are settled promptly and efficiently.

“This shows the effectiveness of the continuous efforts undertaken by the Native Courts and reflects the growing capability of our community leaders and court personnel in managing disputes more effectively,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech during the DUN sitting today (May 18).

Sikie, who is also Kakus assemblyman, said the government will continue strengthening the Native Courts institution through ongoing engagement, training and administrative improvements.

“This is to ensure it continues to serve the people effectively, credibly and responsively to the needs of the rakyat,” he said.
