THE Sarawak Government has identified five locations in Sarawak for the development of Unit Keselamatan dan Penguatkuasaan Sarawak (UKPS) headquarters under the 13th Malaysia Plan, strengthening maritime security and enforcement capabilities.
Minister in the Premier’s Department, Datuk Seri John Sikie Tayai said the initiative reflected the state government’s firm commitment towards enhancing security preparedness and enforcement operations in Sarawak.

“Under the 13th Malaysia Plan, the Sarawak Government has identified five Markas UKPS to be developed across Sarawak, reflecting our firm and unwavering commitment to strengthening maritime security and enforcement capabilities throughout the State,” he said in his ministerial winding-up speech at the DUN Sitting today (May 18).
Furthermore, he said the UKPS headquarters project in Lawas is currently in the implementation stage, with an allocation of RM73.47 million, and is expected to be completed by 2028.
“The development of the Markas UKPS Lawas will play a pivotal role in strengthening security within the northern region of Sarawak, particularly in enhancing surveillance capabilities, reinforcing enforcement presence, and improving overall operational readiness in Sarawak.
“The other four Markas UKPS, which are located in Kuching, Miri, Tanjung Manis and Bintulu are still in various planning stages,” he said.
