The Sarawak Health Department has received RM2.75 billion in operating funds and RM507.3 million in development funds from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH).
Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said the funds are allocated for operational expenses, human capital development, minor upgrading and repair works on health facilities, as well as hospital and clinic support services including the procurement of medical equipment.
He said that as of April this year, the new Lawas Hospital project had reached 97.39 per cent physical completion and is expected to be completed and fully operational by December 2026.
“As for the Petra Jaya Hospital, the project’s physical progress stands at 91.55 per cent as of April 25 with contractors finalising the internal finishing preparing for the installation of medical equipment,” he said.

He said in his ministerial winding up speech at Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting here today (May 19).
Dr Sim, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Development added that the upgrading and repair works for two Health Clinics (KK) have been approved under 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
“The two facilities are KK Nanga Budu, which received an allocation of RM582,055, and KK Roban, which was allocated RM779,024.35 under the Bitara Madani initiative,” he added.
He also said that two new clinics, under Rintis Project initiative, KK Nanga Atoi, Saratok and KK Nanga Ngungun, Kanowit, were approved with a total estimated cost of RM12.8 million.
“KK Nanga Atoi was successfully completed recently, while KK Nanga Ngugun is expected to be completed in 2027.
“Meanwhile, another two projects that are in the final phase, KK Lawas and KK Tabuan Jaya, are expected to be operational by the third quarter of 2026,” he said.
Additionally, the federal government has allocated RM50 million for six dilapidated health facility projects in Sarawak.
“Currently, all these projects are in the pre-implementation stage and are pending tender advertisement upon completion of the design process by Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak.
“The projects involved are KK Santubong in Santubong, KK Tepus in Selangau, KK Kuala Lawas in Lawas, KK Tun Abang Haji Openg in Subis, KK Tanjung Bijat in Sri Aman, and the Isolation Ward at the Emergency and Trauma Department of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH),” he said.
Dr Sim also said that MOH has allocated RM5.7 million budget for upgrading, renovation and repair works of 15 health clinics and one District Health Office in Sarawak.
“Apart from that, MOH has also allocated RM2.4 million for repair and upgrading works for 14 medical quarters and eight units barracks in KK Bario in Bario, KK Nanga Mujong in Kapit and KK Belawai in Tanjung Manis,” he said.
