MUKAH: A suspected small-time drug pusher was caught after narcotics police allegedly uncovered syabu-filled straw tubes hidden inside a cigarette box last night (May 19).

The 24-year-old foreign labourer was arrested at around 7.30pm, following intelligence-led surveillance on suspected drug activities in Kampung Sesok here.

Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said the raid at a house led to the seizure of 14 straw tubes containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, commonly known as syabu.

“The seized drugs weighed about 5.82g and were estimated to be worth RM300.

“Further checks found the suspect tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine during a urine screening.

“Police also discovered the man did not possess valid travel documents, leading to a separate investigation under immigration laws,” he said.

The suspect has been remanded for four days until May 24 to facilitate investigations under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possession of dangerous drugs and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act for drug consumption.

Rizal added that he is also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

Members of the public are urged to report information on drug-related activities through the district police hotline at 084-871222 or the nearest police station.
